The Slovenian Microbiome Network brings researchers together across disciplines, institutions and countries. We organise international symposia on microbiome research to share ideas, methods and discoveries, and build new collaborations.

International symposia.
Shared research questions.
We are the driving force behind SMN and its international microbiome research symposia. The network brings together perspectives from environmental microbiology, agriculture, biotechnology and health. Our events create opportunities to share results, exchange methods and develop research collaborations across borders.
The first symposium took place in Bled on 24 November 2022, followed by “Defining a Healthy Microbiome” in Maribor in 2023.
Alongside our symposia, we organise online seminars in collaboration with the Slovenian Microbiological Society. We also co-organised the international conference Rethinking Plant Systems for the Future in Maribor in 2026, bringing together plant biology and microbiome research.
