Slovenian Microbiome Network

The Slovenian Microbiome Network (SMN), is a dynamic and collaborative initiative dedicated to advancing microbiome research in Slovenia and fostering connections with the global scientific community. Founded on the principles of interdisciplinary cooperation and knowledge exchange, the SMN plays a pivotal role in exploring the intricate world of microbiomes and their diverse applications.

Mission and Objectives

• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: SMN serves as a hub for scientists, researchers, and professionals from diverse fields, promoting collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas. This approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of microbiomes and their significance.

• Cutting-edge Research: The network is committed to advancing cutting-edge microbiome research. It provides a platform for sharing insights, discussing discoveries, and developing innovative methodologies in the field.

• Education and Outreach: SMN is dedicated to educating the public and the scientific community about the importance of microbiomes. Through outreach programs, workshops, and symposia, it aims to raise awareness and promote informed decision-making.

• Application and Impact: Beyond research, the initiative focuses on translating microbiome knowledge into practical applications. This includes improving human health, agriculture, environmental conservation, and more.

Annual Symposia

Within this initiative, SMN annually organizes symposia (https://slovenianmicrobiome.net/) with international attendance, serving as a regional focal point for microbiome research. The inaugural symposium was hosted in Bled, Slovenia in 2022, garnering attention from researchers and professionals from the region (ABSTRACT BOOK). Building upon this success, we held the next symposium themed "Defining a Healthy Microbiome" in 2023 in Maribor, Slovenia (ABSTRACT BOOK).
